On January 20th, 2025,
president Donald J Trump declared a national emergency on the United States southern border with Mexico. He stated that there was an invasion of illegal immigrants and said that in the following days there will be mass deportations throughout the nation. According to the ACLU, “Indeed, Trump has promised to be far more aggressive in a second term, emboldened by close advisers, like Stephen Miller, to launch a “shock-and-awe blitz”.

Mr.Martinez, a well-known teacher has seen students struggle with the uncertainty around the situation. “I just think that they should put more effort into the arrest. If they had actually got to know these students then the whole scandal would be far less difficult and traumatizing for students.” He believes political conflict should stay out of schools, hospitals and churches as they are considered to be safe havens for all types of communities.
