Don’t know where to start when looking at colleges?
Well you can go to the Go Center.
They have many great resources and people that can help you so you won’t be alone in this long process. The staff at the Go Center is really nice, and ready to help you with any questions you may have. Ms. Soza was a great help when I asked her some questions for this article. She guided me to some basic information that could be helpful in the future.
Here are the questions that I asked her: Where can students sign up for college or scholarships? What are some of the things that colleges look for in their students? Why does GPA and SAT scores matter? What would be some of the things that students should have ready for when they go to college? These may seem like very little questions, but in my opinion these may be some of the most important questions that you can ask. In fact, they have an answer for just about any question you have.
Check out the answers I received from Ms. Soza. Maybe you’ll find answers you didn’t know you need until now.
Where can students sign up for college or scholarships?
“For colleges you can go on applytexas.com, commenapp.com, or you can go directly to the college website and apply there.”
What are some of the things that colleges look for in their students?
“For scholarships there’s a couple of different websites that you could go to unago.com that has the majority of our scholarships. The schools that they apply for also provide their own scholarships which are called Institutional Scholarships.”
Why does GPA and SAT scores matter?
“Unique stories, good GPAs (Grade Point Averages), community involvement like volunteering, jobs, anything like that, sports. They also look at your personal stories so that’s why a lot of colleges want you to write essays for them. It is so that they can get a deeper look into who you are not just surface level like by your grades and everything but who you are inside.”
What would be some of the things that students should have ready for when they go to college?
“Have you ever heard of the TSI, the TSI is a test? It’s an intake test essentially, that is required by colleges. If you don’t pass an English or a Math class you’re required to take the TSI. It’s just to place you in the class you need to start in and make sure that you are ready for college. That way if your GPA and [or] your SAT scores show that you are college ready, they don’t really take into consideration how high or low your score is. Instead, they take into consideration how involved you have been with your grades.”
